Huntbar is a search engine directory page that sets itself as your home page. It also adds a search toolbar to IE, and sometimes will make your address bar disappear.

collects information this way:

ALTHOUGH HUNTBAR DOES NOT ATTEMPT TO ANALYZE WEB USAGE DATA TO DETERMINE THE IDENTITY OF ANY HUNTBAR USER, SOME INFORMATION COLLECTED BY THE TOOLBAR SERVICE IS PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE. HUNTBAR AGGREGATES AND ANALYZES THE INFORMATION IT COLLECTS TO IMPROVE ITS SERVICE AND TO PREPARE REPORTS ABOUT AGGREGATE WEB USAGE AND SHOPPING HABITS. |

How to I Remove Huntbar or Search Toolbar?
Basic
Uninstallation
This software can be removed through the Add/Remove Programs menu in
your Microsoft Windows control panel. To uninstall your Search Toolbar,
please do the following:
- Click on the Start button and select Settings and then Control Panel.
- If you are running Microsoft XP, you can go directly to the Control Panel from the Microsoft Windows Start button.
- When the Control panel window opens, double-click on the Add/Remove Programs Icon.
- When the Add/Remove Programs Properties window opens, locate the program that you would like to uninstall.
- The software may be listed as 'Internet 404', 'MSIETS' and/or 'Tools for Internet Explorer'.
- Click once on the
program to be uninstalled and then click on the Add/Remove button and
follow the instructions.
Update: 3/23/04:
The links below do not seem to work currently, because the huntbar.com website appears to be offline completely. If the instructions above do not help to remove the software, I would advise downloading and running SpyBot Search and Destroy to remove any other parts of Huntbar.
IMPORTANT: If the above does not completely
uninstall huntbar, you can ensure that you have a clean hard drive by
using their Advanced
Uninstall Cleaner.
Advanced Uninstallation
If you decide that our software is not right for you, you can easily
remove it using our Advanced Uninstall Cleaner. To uninstall, please do
the following:
- Click on the link to download the zipped remove.bat cab file.
- Extract the file to 'C:\', then double-click on the file to open and automatically run it.
- Once the program has closed the DOS prompt window, you have successfully removed the programs!
In some cases the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\BTIEIN has been difficult, if not impossible to remove. In these instances change the user account to Administrator access and try to delete it or run SpyBot after changing to Administrator priviledges.
