When you open Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) you may be presented with a
popup at the bottom of the screen telling you to disable add-ons to
help speed up browsing. This popup message is shown because one of more
add-ons in Internet Explorer are taking some time to load and thus
slowing down the opening of Internet Explorer 9 itself. Now, you can
always follow the prompts that appear and actually disable the
offending add-on, but what if its an important one like a password
storage add-on. You want to keep the add-on, but disable the annoying
message that pops up.
Extend the Time for the Add-on
One way to combat this problem, is to allow more time for the add-on.
This will in effect disable the popup from showing. To do this, follow
these steps:
1) In Internet Explorer 9, find the Command Toolbar. The one with the
house icon for home, the rss feed icon, etc.
2) Click on Tools on the Command Toolbar
3) Click on Toolbars
4) Click on Disable Add-Ons
5) The Add-ons that are taking time to load will now show. In my case,
Roboform (my password storage program) is the culprit taking .6 seconds
to load. Now you can either disable the add-on or extend the time when
the popup will occur. In my case, I want to extend the time since I
want Roboform to run.
6) Click on the drop down for the time at the bottom of the screen.
Change the time to more than what the add-on is taking to load. 1
second should do the trick in most cases.
7) Click Done
8) Close Internet Explorer 9 and reopen. The popup should be gone.
Note: On all
versions of Vista and 7 except Home and Home Premium, you can also
disable the popup through the group policy editor. Visit
