PC Hell: How to Remove Homepage Hijackers

One of the more annoying spyware and adware types of programs is the homepage hijacker. The one that takes over your homepage and shows their page. Many times these hijacks can be fixed easily, but sometimes the problem is caused by a trojan that is difficult to remove. The CWS or CoolWebSearch hijackers fall into this category. CoolWebSearch caused a lot of problems on the Internet during its time, and has spawned other hijackers as well. A guy named Merijn, although many people spell it Merjin, created a tool to remove these hijacks called CWShredder. The tool was hosted at SpywareInfo.com, which has since changed its name to SpywareInfoforum.com. Later this tool was taken over by Trend Micro. For a long time, this was the only tool on the net to be able to remove these homepage hijackers.
