A fairly new phenomenon in the spyware/virus industry is the introduction of rootkits that hijack your search engine results. Commonly known as a Google Redirect problem since Google.com is the most well known and used search engines on the planet. Generally caused by a rootkit that has been downloaded by a rogue security program, the rootkit hijacks your search engine results. The user goes to Google.com and searches for something, they click on a link and instead of going to the correct destination, the user is transported to a different URL in the hopes that they will purchase something or click on a link to make the rootkit creator some money. Its a very annoying problem and currently they escape almost all the normal spyware removal and malware removal programs on the market.
